Cake City

July 27, 2010

I have never had macarons before and I have always seen tons of pictures off of other foodies blogs that I had to make it a mission to find some. I happened to find some at Cake City which was right across from my work so I hopped on by to grab some. I ended up taking home about a dozen which I never finished and it ended up being spoiled in the car.. I haven't had any cake from Cake City but the macarons were pretty good. Coffee (brown), Raspberry (hot pink), Cosmopolitan Cocktail (light pink), Margarita (bright green), "something" Cream (offwhite) [i don't remember the name but it has a vanilla yet nutty taste to it]. My favorite would have to be the cream one, the fruity flavors weren't fooling me and so I had to pass on those. These macarons were way way too sweet for me. If they were toned down I would buy more but I think I had enough of these.

They were just the way I would imagine them to taste and feel. Crisp and crunchy on the outside, soft and moist in the inside and a sweet cream that kept the two pieces together.

  1. I used to work at this place before the owners went nuts and fired everyone (in September) and was the main macaron baker, so i was pretty stoked to see your blog! I never much cared for the fruit flavors myself, as they were all artificial flavors. The cream one was 'pralines and cream' flavored, and as far as the sweetness, since macarons are basically made up of powdered sugar (and filled with sugary ganache), there's really no avoiding the sweetness. I agree that they can sometimes be a bit too much!

if you ever feel the urge to bake some of em yourself, i keep a food blog and have my recipe listed here:
